I can relate to Jimmy because he was loyal to a friend in need. Paul made a couple mistakes but he corrected them and jimmys mom didn't want Jimmy hanging out with paul.
Jimmy most certainly is aware of why his mother is upset about him hanging around with Paul. However, what Jimmy's mother doesn't have that Jimmy has is most likely trust for Paul.
